Second Dawn Community & Shard Rules

The old world rises again.

Second Dawn is a dangerous, player-driven Ultima Online world. Killing, stealing, looting, rivalry, betrayal, and loss are legitimate parts of that world. Harassment, cheating, exploitation, and conduct intended only to prevent someone from playing are not.

These rules apply across the Second Dawn shard, website, Discord server, official events, support systems, and other community spaces. By participating, you agree to follow both their wording and their intent.

01

The central rule

Danger is part of the world. Abuse is not.

Staff will distinguish between consequential sandbox gameplay and conduct that attacks the player rather than the character.

Being defeated, robbed, deceived, ambushed, looted, or driven from a contested area does not by itself mean a rule was broken. Using exploits, real-world harassment, persistent grief loops, account abuse, or outside information to deny someone a reasonable ability to play may be a violation.

If your defense depends on a technical loophole in these rules, it is probably not acceptable.

02

Treat people with basic respect

Conflict between characters is welcome. Abuse between players is not.

The following are prohibited:

  • Harassment, stalking, intimidation, or sustained personal attacks.
  • Hate speech, slurs, or degrading content directed at a protected class.
  • Real-world threats, encouragement of self-harm, or glorification of real violence against another person.
  • Sexual harassment or sexually explicit content in public community spaces.
  • Sharing or threatening to share private or identifying information.
  • Attempting to contact someone repeatedly after they have clearly asked you to stop.
  • Coordinating a group to harass, mass-report, or drive a player from the community.
  • Following a dispute from the game into Discord messages, social media, or other communities to continue attacking the person.
  • Falsifying evidence or knowingly making false accusations.

Competitive banter and roleplayed hostility are permitted. Staff may intervene when the conduct becomes personal, discriminatory, threatening, excessively disruptive, or persistent beyond the game encounter.

03

Accounts and identity

Each player may own and operate one Second Dawn game account unless a different limit is explicitly published.

  • One website identity and one Discord identity may be linked to only one game account.
  • Do not create alternate identities or accounts to bypass account, Ocllo, punishment, housing, economic, or participation limits.
  • Multiple legitimate players in the same household must contact staff privately before creating accounts from the same connection.
  • Account sharing, lending, selling, trading, or gifting is prohibited.
  • You are responsible for activity performed through your accounts.
  • Do not allow another person to play through your identity or impersonate you.
  • A suspended or banned player may not return through another Discord, website, game account, household member, or intermediary.
  • Do not attempt to acquire another player’s password, recovery link, authorization code, or session.
  • Never enter your credentials anywhere except the official Second Dawn website and approved client.

Second Dawn staff will never ask for your website password, game password, recovery token, Discord authorization code, or authentication cookie. Staff cannot display or recover your existing password.

Report suspected account compromise privately and immediately.

04

Clients, assistants, macros, and automation

Use only the distributed Second Dawn client and tools explicitly approved by staff.

Attended use of ordinary client hotkeys and approved macro features is permitted. The player must remain present, supervise the activity, and be able to respond promptly.

Unless an exception is specifically published, the following are prohibited:

  • Unattended skill gain, combat, healing, gathering, crafting, fishing, taming, barding, stealing, looting, vendor activity, or house maintenance.
  • Scripts that make gameplay decisions or react automatically to creatures, players, health, journal text, packets, items, or world conditions.
  • Automatic targeting, pathfinding, escape, healing, curing, looting, restocking, buying, selling, or resource harvesting.
  • Repeating one input across multiple clients.
  • Controlling another player or account through follow, combat, healing, or support automation.
  • Speed modification, packet injection, client injection, hidden-information display, map revelation, range modification, or removal of intended restrictions.
  • Software that reveals invisible players, private containers, undiscovered objectives, rare-spawn timing, or information unavailable through normal play.
  • Automation designed to reserve housing, capture vendor stock, snipe market listings, or gain an advantage during events.

A player who is present but allowing software to make decisions is still automating gameplay.

If you are uncertain whether a client feature or tool is allowed, ask before using it. “The client permitted me to do it” is not a defense when the behavior violates the rules.

05

Bugs, exploits, and unintended mechanics

Do not knowingly use a defect to gain, preserve, duplicate, transfer, or deny value.

Prohibited conduct includes:

  • Item, gold, resource, pet, deed, reward, or currency duplication.
  • Avoiding intended death, loss, travel, skill, stat, housing, event, or account restrictions through a defect.
  • Generating rewards repeatedly through broken event, vendor, quest, BOD, spawn, or persistence behavior.
  • Placing or moving objects through invalid geometry.
  • Creating unreachable safe positions from which a player can attack without meaningful risk.
  • Forcing creatures, guards, vendors, pets, or event systems into a clearly broken state for advantage.
  • Crashing, lagging, flooding, or deliberately destabilizing the server or another player’s client.
  • Testing a suspected exploit beyond what is reasonably necessary to recognize and report it.
  • Teaching, selling, publishing, or privately distributing exploit instructions.

Normal use of terrain, doors, line of sight, positioning, and creature behavior is part of UO. When a tactic depends on obviously broken geometry, invulnerability, duplication, or bypassing a published restriction, stop and report it.

Exploit reports must be submitted privately. Do not post reproduction steps, screenshots containing sensitive details, or proof-of-concept scripts in public channels.

Items or gains connected to an exploit may be removed regardless of who currently possesses them.

06

PvP, murder, stealing, and looting

Outside protected areas and special events, Second Dawn uses a consequential Felucca ruleset.

Subject to the game’s mechanics and these rules, players may:

  • Attack and kill other players.
  • Loot player corpses.
  • Steal and snoop.
  • Ambush travelers and contest resources or locations.
  • Hunt murderers or collect authorized bounties.
  • Betray alliances, set traps, demand ransom, and engage in villainous roleplay.
  • Compete over roads, dungeons, seas, housing locations, event objectives, and trade routes.

Staff will not punish a player merely for being a murderer, thief, outlaw, rival, or effective opponent.

However, open PvP is not permission to harass someone indefinitely. Prohibited conduct includes:

06A

Limits within open conflict

  • Repeatedly killing or trapping a player primarily to prevent resurrection, corpse recovery, departure, or any reasonable opportunity to continue playing.
  • Camping resurrection or stuck locations for the sole purpose of maintaining a grief loop.
  • Using Discord status, livestreams, private messages, leaked telemetry, or other outside information to locate and hunt a player.
  • Targeting someone in-game because of their real-world identity, protected characteristics, or an out-of-game dispute.
  • Using alternate accounts or associates to evade criminal consequences or continue prohibited harassment.
  • Exploiting guards, safe zones, region boundaries, transport, or logout behavior in an unintended manner.

Repeated fighting can be legitimate during guild conflict, bounty hunting, territorial competition, or an active objective. Staff will consider the pattern, duration, purpose, available escape, and accompanying conduct.

07

Ocllo newcomer protection

Ocllo is a temporary, account-wide starting region for new and returning players. It is not a permanent safe economy or a resource farm.

  • Protected accounts must remain within Ocllo until they graduate.
  • Established players may not enter Ocllo.
  • Graduation through the ferry is irreversible and affects every character on the account.
  • Do not create another account to regain Ocllo protection.
  • Do not exploit travel, pets, summons, boats, runes, gates, teleporters, logout positions, or stuck services to cross the boundary.
  • Do not funnel resources, gold, items, pets, or services between Ocllo and established accounts.
  • Do not use ground items, secure trade, character deletion, starter claims, NPC sales, or other systems to bypass newcomer limits.
  • Do not pressure a newcomer into graduating through harassment or false claims about staff requirements.
  • Do not exploit protected characters to scout, heal, observe, store property, support mainland activity, or shield another player.
  • Attempts to enter Ocllo as a veteran, mule value through it, or preserve protected access after graduation may result in account action and removal of related assets.

Helping newcomers through Discord or public guides is encouraged. Veterans, recruiters, and merchants must not attempt to enter the protected region.

Current time, skill, resource, sale, and departure limits will be published in the official Ocllo guide. Players are responsible for reviewing those limits before beginning or graduating.

08

Trading and the economy

Second Dawn’s economy belongs to its players. Staff do not guarantee prices, profits, trades, vendor availability, or the future value of an item.

  • Ordinary in-game bargaining, deception, theft, betrayal, and unwise trades are part of the sandbox.
  • Staff generally will not reverse a voluntary trade or reimburse an item lost through normal gameplay.
  • Discord market posts must describe the offered goods or services honestly. The Discord market board is not an extension of in-character fraud.
  • Bait-and-switch listings, falsified auctions, fake staff endorsements, and intentionally fraudulent service advertisements are prohibited in official community spaces.
  • Do not manipulate auctions or prices using false bids, alternate identities, or coordinated fake demand.
  • Do not use automated tools to purchase vendor stock or monitor listings faster than ordinary players.
  • Do not knowingly trade duplicated, exploited, stolen-account, or otherwise illicit assets.
  • Staff may freeze or remove assets while investigating an exploit or compromised account.

Real-money trading is prohibited. Do not buy, sell, trade, raffle, or advertise Second Dawn accounts, characters, gold, items, houses, pets, services, or progression for:

08A

No real-money trading

  • Real money.
  • Cryptocurrency.
  • Gift cards.
  • Goods or currency from another game or shard.
  • Discord rewards or currencies.
  • Donations, subscriptions, or outside services.

Official support or donations, if introduced, will never authorize private real-money trades or sell gameplay power.

09

Housing, vendors, and world access

Housing and physical player vendors are meaningful parts of the shared world.

  • Do not use placement defects, object overlap, invalid geometry, or automation to place or maintain property.
  • Do not use houses or objects to permanently block required public infrastructure, mandatory event access, resurrection routes, or essential transport.
  • Strategic placement, defensible locations, and competition for land are allowed within published mechanics.
  • Do not impersonate an official vendor, support service, event location, or staff-operated property.
  • Do not exploit house access, ownership transfer, decay, lockdown, secure-container, or vendor systems.
  • Property associated with excess accounts, ban evasion, exploits, or real-money trading may be removed.

Staff are not responsible for normal house decay, insecure containers, mistaken access permissions, vendor pricing errors, or items voluntarily placed where another player can take them.

10

Events and special regions

Official events may temporarily apply additional rules.

  • Read the event announcement before participating.
  • Follow event-team instructions concerning transport, teams, PvP, loot, boundaries, timing, and objectives.
  • Do not enter closed preparation or staff areas.
  • Do not bypass event transport or travel restrictions through Recall, Gate Travel, runes, pets, logout positions, or other means.
  • Do not preserve access to a temporary region after an event.
  • Do not interfere with setup, cleanup, NPCs, decorations, or participants through an unintended mechanic.
  • Do not use additional accounts to claim participation, rewards, or limited supplies more than once.
  • Event-specific PvP restrictions override normal Felucca expectations only within the announced event scope.
  • Participation does not guarantee a reward. Event outcomes, including failure, may permanently affect the world.

Bugs or disputes during an event should be reported privately. Do not stop the event with public arguments unless staff request immediate information.

11

Names, profiles, and player-created content

Character, pet, guild, vendor, house, book, profile, forum, and Discord names must be appropriate.

Do not use:

  • Slurs, hate speech, explicit sexual content, or targeted insults.
  • Names designed to impersonate staff, official systems, or another player.
  • Names that falsely imply administrative authority or official endorsement.
  • Personal information belonging to another person.
  • Advertising for other shards, gold sellers, cheats, exploits, or prohibited services.
  • Deliberately disruptive names intended to evade filters or make moderation difficult.

Staff may require a name or piece of content to be changed even when it is not covered word-for-word above.

12

Discord conduct

All members must follow the current Discord Terms of Service and Discord Community Guidelines.

In addition:

  • Complete membership screening honestly.
  • Do not use alternate Discord accounts to bypass verification or moderation.
  • Keep posts in the appropriate channels and use required forum tags.
  • Do not spam, mass-mention, flood reactions, abuse voice channels, or repeatedly repost removed content.
  • Do not advertise unrelated communities, commercial services, streams, or recruitment links without permission.
  • Do not send unsolicited promotional or recruitment messages to members.
  • Do not post malicious, deceptive, tracking, or disguised links.
  • Do not impersonate staff, bots, patch notices, support messages, or account alerts.
  • Do not publicly accuse another player of cheating or demand disciplinary action.
  • Do not post private tickets, staff correspondence, personal information, or sensitive exploit details.
  • Do not record or rebroadcast private voice conversations without the participants’ knowledge and permission.

Disagreements should remain civil. If a conversation is becoming personal or unproductive, leave it or ask a moderator to intervene.

13

Reporting problems

Use the official private support or report system for:

  • Account access or suspected compromise.
  • Harassment or threats.
  • Exploits and duplication.
  • Automation or client modification.
  • Ocllo abuse.
  • Real-money trading.
  • Staff impersonation.
  • Event problems.
  • Appeals.

A useful report includes:

13A

What to include in a report

  • The approximate date and time.
  • Character or Discord names involved.
  • The location or channel.
  • A factual description of what occurred.
  • Original screenshots, video, or message links when available.
  • Whether the issue is continuing or creates an immediate security risk.

Do not provoke a player to create evidence, edit evidence misleadingly, or organize others to submit duplicate reports. Report the matter once and allow staff time to investigate.

Normal PvP losses, theft, looting, unfavorable trades, spawn competition, or disagreement over item value should not be reported as misconduct unless accompanied by an actual rule violation.

14

Staff interaction and appeals

Follow reasonable instructions from Second Dawn staff. If you believe an instruction or decision is mistaken, comply first and appeal privately.

  • Do not argue moderation cases in public channels.
  • Do not threaten, harass, bribe, deceive, or pressure staff.
  • Do not contact multiple staff members seeking a different answer.
  • Do not ask friends or guildmates to campaign for your case.
  • Do not impersonate a staff member or claim private staff approval you did not receive.
  • Staff actions involving accounts require a recorded reason and are subject to internal review.
  • Staff will not reveal confidential reports, security methods, account information, or another player’s disciplinary history.

An appeal should be factual, concise, and submitted through the designated process. Normally, one appeal will be reviewed for each action. Repeated submissions without new information may be closed without response.

15

Enforcement

Possible actions include:

  • Informal guidance.
  • A recorded warning.
  • Message removal, channel restriction, mute, or timeout.
  • Removal from an event.
  • Confiscation or deletion of illicit assets.
  • Forced Ocllo graduation or loss of protected access.
  • Disconnection.
  • Temporary suspension.
  • Permanent removal from the shard and community.
  • Action against related accounts, property, or assets used to evade enforcement.

Warnings are not guaranteed. Severe cheating, account theft, real-world threats, doxxing, deliberate server attacks, exploit distribution, real-money trading, or ban evasion may result in immediate permanent removal.

Staff will consider intent, harm, repetition, prior history, cooperation, disclosure, and attempts to conceal the behavior. Reporting your own accidental discovery promptly will generally be treated differently from exploiting and hiding it.

Not every enforcement method or detection signal will be disclosed.

16

Losses and restoration

Death, looting, theft, durability loss, trade risk, travel risk, and housing risk are intentional parts of Second Dawn.

Staff ordinarily will not restore:

  • Items lost through death or corpse decay.
  • Items taken through lawful stealing or looting.
  • Property involved in a voluntary trade.
  • Goods lost through incorrect vendor pricing.
  • Items left unsecured or given to another player.
  • Property lost through ordinary house decay or access settings.
  • Event rewards a player failed to claim correctly.
  • Progress lost because the player used unsupported software.

A verified server fault, destructive defect, or documented administrative error may be reviewed, but restoration is never automatic. Protecting the integrity of the world and economy takes priority over replacing individual property.

17

Rule changes and staff judgment

No rules document can describe every possible abuse in a sandbox world.

Staff may act against conduct that clearly violates the purpose of these rules even if the exact method is new. Staff may also decline to punish aggressive, deceptive, or unpopular behavior that remains legitimate gameplay.

Material rule changes will be announced. Emergency changes may take effect immediately when needed to protect accounts, the economy, the server, or the community.

Continuing to use Second Dawn after a published change means accepting the current rules.

When uncertain, ask before acting.

Play the villain if you wish.

Do not become one to the people behind the characters.
